Piacenza: Driver arrested after hit-and-run leaves child in critical condition

A 42-year-old man has been arrested following a violent hit-and-run accident on the Statale 45 near Coni di Travo, in the province of Piacenza. The incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 8, when the driver’s BMW struck a Jeep carrying a family from Brescia heading toward Bobbio.

The collision left a 10-year-old child in critical condition in pediatric intensive care at the Ospedale Maggiore in Parma. The father also sustained serious injuries, while a second child suffered minor injuries and the mother remained unhurt.

Following the impact, the driver fled the scene, stopping only several hundred meters away. When located by Carabinieri and transported to a hospital in Piacenza via ambulance, the man attempted to flee on foot a second time before being apprehended. Toxicology reports revealed blood alcohol levels nearly four times the legal limit, along with the presence of narcotics. The suspect faces charges including fleeing an accident involving very serious personal injury, driving under the influence, and drug use. He is currently under house arrest.
