Piacenza hosts initiative to address rising youth mental health distress

A series of educational meetings titled ‘Una mappa per educare insieme’ will be held in Piacenza, Italy, between October and December. Organized by the Order of Physicians, Surgeons and Dentists of Piacenza, with support from the Fondazione di Piacenza e Vigevano and scientific collaboration from the Psychopedagogical Center for Education and Conflict Management, the initiative aims to address rising youth distress.

The program seeks to analyze youth malaise—including anxiety, depression, social withdrawal, and aggression—as a public health issue. The goal is to foster dialogue between healthcare, schools, families, and institutions to promote shared educational responsibility. Speakers include various experts in psychotherapy, pedagogy, and social issues.

Clinical perspectives on adolescent borderline personality disorder highlight the complexity of the condition. In these cases, emotional instability and a fragmented sense of identity often lead to self-harm, which can function as a physical method of regulating overwhelming psychological distress. Experts emphasize that therapeutic intervention must address the underlying psychological needs rather than merely treating the symptom.
