Taranto political disputes escalate over ex Ilva energy and stadium management

Political tensions are escalating in Taranto regarding the industrial crisis of the ex Ilva steel plant. Dario Iaia, a deputy from Fratelli d’Italia, has criticized Mayor Piero Bitetti, accusing the local administration of blocking a government-proposed solution to ensure energy continuity. The proposal involved using a gas tanker moored offshore to meet the plant's energy needs, a move Iaia claims the municipality rejected before technical assessments could be completed.

Separately, local political friction has emerged regarding the management of the Erasmo Iacovone stadium. Luca Lazzàro, a municipal councilor for Fratelli d’Italia, has called for an urgent hearing of the Territory Setting Commission. He raised concerns over the lack of a strategic vision for the facility and criticized the administration for what he described as fragmented management and opaque procedures regarding the assignment of internal concessions.
