Piacenza receives €2 million for station safety; Palermo holds urban security conference

The mayor of Piacenza, Katia Tarasconi, announced that the city will receive about €2 million from the Emilia‑Romagna regional safety plan, which allocates a total of €20 million to improve railway‑station areas across the region. The funding will be used for urban renewal, better lighting, video‑surveillance, accessibility upgrades and new services around the Piacenza station, with regional president Michele de Pascale supporting the initiative.

On 27 July 2026, the ARS in Palermo hosted a conference titled “Palermo, together for a safer city.” The event, moderated by criminologist Prof. Giuseppe Giocaliero, featured Deputy Vincenzo Figuccia, Prof. Andrea Torcivia and other experts who presented criminological and sociological analyses and concrete proposals to enhance public safety in Palermo. Local officials, academics and representatives of various institutions attended the discussion.
