Piacenza school menus remove pork products

Political representatives in Piacenza have raised concerns regarding the removal of pork products from school menus, effective October 20. Items such as coppa, loin, and cooked ham, which were included in the previous autumn-winter menu, are absent from the new rotation.

Sara Soresi, a city councilor for Fratelli d'Italia, challenged potential nutritional justifications for the change. She argued that the decision appears to be a response to the religious requirements of Muslim students rather than health needs, suggesting that local traditions are being sacrificed for the sake of inclusion.

The Lega party has also demanded public explanations from the local Ausl and the Municipality, stating that the simultaneous disappearance of all pork varieties is an unacceptable move that impacts local and Italian food supply chains.
