Piaggio Aerospace faces uncertainty amid delayed industrial plan

Piaggio Aerospace is experiencing significant operational uncertainty due to delays in implementing its new industrial strategy. Despite a change in management following a government-appointed commission and the acquisition by Baykar approximately 18 months ago, labor unions report that the company’s strategic roadmap lacks concrete execution steps and detailed timelines.

The company’s workforce has declined to 508 employees, one of its lowest levels in decades. This contraction is attributed to postponed investments and operational bottlenecks. Traditional business segments, such as aircraft engine maintenance for the Italian aerobatic team Frecce Tricolori, face ongoing instability. Additionally, the company’s planned expansion into Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) production and its joint ventures with Leonardo have yet to materialize into scalable or transparent projects.

Labor unions, including CGIL and FIOM, are demanding a clear, actionable roadmap that outlines how new production programs will integrate with current operations and how these changes will impact employment levels. Stakeholders are also mindful that planned government financial support is scheduled to end in March 2027.
