Piaggio Group secures EU trademark for Vespa Primavera shape

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has granted registration for the three-dimensional trademark of the Vespa Primavera shape. This legal protection covers the physical form of the two-wheeled vehicle and its scale models across all 27 EU member states.

The ruling recognizes the distinctive character acquired by the Vespa silhouette through decades of use. The EUIPO noted that the Vespa has been on the market since 1946 and possesses a global reputation that extends well beyond European borders. The decision clarifies that stylistic evolutions of the model do not affect its protection, as long as the variations retain the essential distinctive features of the original design.

This European registration follows previous trademark protections obtained by the Piaggio Group in Italy in February 2024 and the United Kingdom in November 2025. The move is intended to safeguard the iconic design against unauthorized copies and clones.
