Piaggio Group secures EU-wide 3D trademark for Vespa Primavera
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has granted a three-dimensional (3D) trademark registration for the design of the Vespa Primavera, providing the Piaggio Group with enhanced legal protection across the 27 member states of the European Union.
This registration follows previous protections obtained in Italy in February 2024 and the United Kingdom in November 2025. The 3D trademark applies to both the actual two-wheeled vehicles and miniature models. The EUIPO recognized the distinctive character acquired by the Vespa Primavera shape through its long-standing market presence and consumer recognition.
Crucially, the EUIPO specified that stylistic evolutions of the model do not invalidate this protection. As long as new designs are considered evolutions that maintain the core distinctive characteristics of the original silhouette, they remain covered under the trademark. This decision provides Piaggio with a robust tool to combat design counterfeiting within the EU.
