Piana di Gioia Tauro hospital project remains in preliminary phase

The ProSalus Committee of Palmi has issued an open letter to Calabria Regional President and health emergency commissioner Roberto Occhiuto, demanding definitive timelines for the construction of the new hospital in Piana di Gioia Tauro.

Despite nearly twenty years of administrative procedures and announcements, the project remains stuck in ‘Phase Zero,’ which involves preliminary site preparation such as earthworks and roundabout construction. The committee, led by President Stefania Marino, has formally requested access to documents regarding the approval of executive designs and the subsequent delivery of construction phases.

While the definitive project was approved in May 2025 and work areas were handed to D’Agostino Costruzioni Generali Spa in July 2025, the committee argues that the current pace of preliminary works is incompatible with the region's ongoing health emergency.
