Pianist Alexander Melnikov Performs at St. Sophia Church in Ohrid

Russian‑German pianist Alexander Melnikov gave a recital in the church of St. Sophia in Ohrid as part of the Ohrid Summer festival. The program featured Franz Schubert’s technically demanding Wanderer Fantasy (1822) and Claude Debussy’s 12 Preludes, among other works.

Melnikov said, “I played the pieces I like most. I am glad to be here for the first time in this beautiful city. The ambience is very inspiring.” He is regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation, noted for virtuosity, deep musicality and collaborations in chamber music.

The concert was praised by the festival audience, highlighting the historic venue’s acoustics and the artist’s skill.
