Piantedosi defines the role of the political center in Italy

Italian Minister Piantedosi has commented on the importance of the political center, drawing inspiration from a book by Gianfranco Rotondi. Piantedosi emphasized that the concept of being ‘of the center’ is not merely a matter of parliamentary geometry or being equidistant from the right and left.

Instead, he defined the center as a political function focused on mediation between social groups. He argued that being centrist involves refusing to identify a party exclusively with a single class or ideology, instead prioritizing the role of intermediate bodies and combining economic initiative with social solidarity.

Piantedosi referenced the historical legacy of the Democrazia Cristiana (Christian Democracy), noting its ability to organize the diverse interests of an articulated society—including rural populations, urban classes, workers, and entrepreneurs—without flattening their complexities.
