Italy: Various legal rulings and arrests in domestic violence and assault cases
Several legal proceedings and arrests have been reported across Italy involving violent crimes and domestic abuse.
In Chieri, Turin, a man has been arrested on charges of torture after allegedly subjecting his partner to 12 hours of physical and psychological violence. Investigators report the use of an improvised taser, an air pistol, and restraints during what was initially intended as a consensual BDSM session but escalated into non-consensual brutality.
In Soverato, three men—Carlo Gallina, Simone Mumoli, and Emanuel Rosario Giampà—were sentenced for the 2022 assault of an 18-year-old man at a nightclub. The attack reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a social interaction.
In Ferrara, a 47-year-old man received a ten-month sentence for biting and beating his partner. Meanwhile, in Modena, a couple faces trial for the alleged long-term physical and verbal abuse of their teenage daughter, which was discovered by school teachers.
In Bologna, the Court of Assizes of Appeal upheld a three-year sentence for Rocco Giulio Capria, a truck driver convicted in the 2019 death of a colleague near Minerbio. While prosecutors initially sought a murder conviction, the court maintained the ruling of a non-intentional incident.
