Piaseczno residents protest new data center construction
Residents of Piaseczno, near Warsaw, are protesting the construction of a new data center on Energetyczna Street. The local community has expressed concerns regarding the facility's impact on the environment, specifically citing high water consumption, heat generation, and noise pollution.
Local authorities, including the Piaseczno Municipal Office and the water utility PWiK Piaseczno, are working to clarify the investment's circumstances. The developer, Warsaw-based Sien Real, applied for environmental permits in September 2022. The municipality noted that it followed an expanded environmental decision procedure, which resulted in a permit issued on April 12, 2024, outlining strict requirements for noise levels and operational standards. The site is designated for industrial and service use under the local spatial management plan.
Tensions have risen as residents claim they were only informed of the project when construction began in August. In response, Mayor Daniel Putkiewicz has promised a meeting between residents and the investor to address these concerns. Additionally, the possibility of a second data center in a different part of the industrial zone has fueled further anxiety, with one such project currently undergoing administrative court proceedings.
