Piast Castle hosts religious veneration of Holy Cross relics

On September 14, 2026, the St. Thomas Becket Chapel at the Piast Castle in Racibórz hosted a religious event for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Faithful gathered for prayer and the adoration of relics of the Holy Cross.

Historical records indicate that relics have been kept at the castle since the late 13th century. A 1464 document from Duke Przemysław II of Cieszyn specifically mentions three thorns from the crown of Jesus Christ being held at the castle, noting they were never to be removed. While the castle collegiate was moved to the parish church in 1416, a 17th-century pyx containing the relics remains in the treasury of the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The evening included a musical program and historical presentations by Grzegorz Wawoczny, Deputy Director of the Piast Castle, and Father Dr. Marian Obruśnik. The event also featured an organ concert by maestro Arkadiusz Popławski on the oldest organs in the county.
