Piatra Neamț farmers preserve traditional Romanian seed varieties

In Piatra Neamț, Ionela Leuștean and Liviu Oroșanu have dedicated nearly a decade to organic agriculture, focusing on the preservation of traditional Romanian genetic material. Their work involves cultivating a wide array of heirloom tomato varieties, such as 'Ideal', 'Zemoase de Prahova', and 'Uriașe de Neamț', to ensure these species are maintained for the future.

The couple has expanded their expertise significantly, managing over 130 varieties of chili peppers, including the world-renowned 'Pepper X', 'Jalapeno', and 'Carolina Reaper'. While their primary motivation is personal satisfaction and the preservation of biodiversity, their products have gained international recognition, receiving orders from across Romania and various European states, and have been showcased at professional trade fairs in Brussels.
