Piauí wildfires intensify across rural and urban areas
Wildfires are intensifying across the state of Piauí, Brazil, affecting both rural and urban areas. In Pedro II, the Civil Defense and Fire Department have been mobilized to combat fires in locations such as Cristo Rei and Arara. Authorities have advised residents to avoid using fire for land clearing due to low humidity and the risk of smoke affecting air quality.
In southern Piauí, a large-scale fire has burned for ten days at the Taboca settlement near Currais, Santa Luz, and Bom Jesus. The scale of the fire and a lack of accessible roads have complicated firefighting efforts. To assist, comedian Whindersson Nunes has funded the hiring of an aircraft from Bahia to support aerial firefighting operations. The response includes municipal brigades, local residents, and logistical support from various companies and local governments.
