Pic du Midi ranked as top global stargazing destination

The eSIM provider Holafly has released its inaugural ‘Clean Sky Index’ to identify the world’s best travel destinations for stargazing. The index aims to find locations that offer an optimal balance between exceptional night skies and travel accessibility.

Researchers evaluated destinations based on four weighted criteria: light pollution (35%), frequency of clear nights (30%), accessibility from major international hubs (20%), and Dark Sky status (15%). To ensure geographic diversity, the study limited selections to a maximum of three destinations per country.

Pic du Midi in France secured the top position due to its combination of high-quality sky conditions and ease of access, noting it is reachable from London in under four hours. Other top-ranked locations for summer 2026 include Warrumbungle National Park in Australia, Grasslands National Park in Canada, and the NamibRand Nature Reserve in Namibia.
