Pica implements backup electrical infrastructure for emergencies
Authorities in the Pica commune have launched new infrastructure designed to strengthen the security and continuity of the electrical supply during emergencies. The project involves distribution network adaptations that allow for the connection of a 1-megawatt (MW) backup generator.
This backup system is intended to cover approximately one-third of the commune's electrical demand during major contingencies, such as those caused by cable theft. The initiative was led by the Tarapacá Regional Energy Secretary, Juan Ignacio Boudon, and the Tamarugal Provincial Presidential Delegate, Karen Heyne, in coordination with the municipality and CGE representatives.
