Alan Pichot and Marta García Martín win Spanish Chess Championships
Alan Pichot and Marta García Martín have been crowned champions of the 2026 Spanish Chess Championships held in Linares. The tournament, conducted in a nine-round Swiss format from August 17 to 25, saw men and women competing in the same pool, though final rankings were determined by gender.
In the absolute category, Argentine-born Grandmaster Alan Pichot secured his first Spanish title after finishing with 7.5/9 points. He clinched the victory by defeating Alex Villa Torner in the final round. Daniil Yuffa earned the silver medal via tiebreaks, followed by Eduardo Iturrizaga Bonelli.
In the women’s category, International Master Marta García Martín successfully defended her title, marking her third national championship. She finished with 6/9 points, ahead of silver medalist Sabrina Vega and third-place finisher Adhara Rodríguez Redondo.
