Pickleball fuels local fundraiser and expands into school programmes worldwide

A Bowling Green, Kentucky community group organized a charity pickleball tournament on May 30, with proceeds earmarked for the local Parks and Recreation department and the Bowling Green Community Foundation to combat food insecurity. The event featured a full‑day of matches, food trucks, a raffle, and a “pickleball drop” offering participants a chance to win $500.

At the same time, educators around the globe are adding pickleball to school curricula, citing its low cost, easy setup and benefits for physical fitness, coordination, concentration and teamwork. The sport’s rise was highlighted by a French school team winning a national short‑tennis and pickleball championship, underscoring how schools are using it to promote healthier, more inclusive physical‑education programmes.
