Pico Duarte documentary premieres at Centro Cultural Taíno Casa del Cordón

The Centro Cultural Taíno Casa del Cordón hosted the screening of ‘El Pico Duarte’, a documentary film exploring the highest peak in the Antilles. The production is part of the sixth edition of the ‘Orgullo de Mi Tierra’ initiative by Centro Cuesta Nacional (CCN), a project that has spent 15 years highlighting the natural and cultural diversity of the Dominican Republic.

Directed by Mariana Rubio Pittalug and Arturo Dickson, and produced by Montesereno Films, the documentary is the first major cinematic work dedicated to the mountain in over 40 years. The production involved six separate expeditions across different seasons to capture the changing landscapes, flora, and weather conditions. The filming team included 18 technicians and support staff, working alongside local mountain guides.

The film emphasizes the ecological importance of Pico Duarte, noting its role as a hydrological heart for the country where the Yaque del Norte and Yaque del Sur rivers originate. In addition to the documentary, the project includes a photographic book, a children's book, and a podcast to promote environmental awareness and adventure tourism.
