PICO to launch Space Pro headset on September 2

PICO has announced that its new mixed reality headset, the PICO Space Pro (previously referred to as Project Swan), will be officially released on September 2.

The device features high-end hardware specifications, including custom micro-OLED displays designed to achieve a pixel density of 4,000 PPI, with 40 PPD (pixels per degree) and 45 PPD at the center. To support high-performance spatial computing, the headset utilizes a dual-chip architecture. This includes a proprietary XR processor developed by PICO to handle sensor data and virtual object rendering with a low latency of 12 milliseconds, alongside a main SoC that reportedly doubles the CPU and GPU performance compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2.

Design elements of the headset include a woven headband similar to the Apple Vision Pro and a front design reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy XR. The package may include tracking controllers similar to the PICO 4 and an external module, which is speculated to be either a battery pack or an additional computing unit. The product is being marketed as a lightweight solution for a “new spatial experience” and total immersion.
