Piedimonte Matese Council rejects motion to honor Italian Constitution founders

The municipal council of Piedimonte Matese has rejected a motion to dedicate a public space, such as a street or square, to the Mothers and Fathers of the Italian Constitution. The proposal, originally submitted on March 2 by independent councilman Emilio Iannotta, was debated during a council session on October 29.

While four councilors voted in favor of the motion, the RISE majority did not approve it. Iannotta expressed disappointment, describing the outcome as a lost opportunity to transmit constitutional values to younger generations. He noted that the support for the motion came from various political backgrounds, suggesting the Constitution should serve as a common ground beyond partisan lines.

During the debate, the rejection was justified by the need to first conduct a review of the municipality's toponomy. Iannotta questioned the consistency of this reasoning, pointing out that other recent naming decisions had been made without such a review.
