Piedmont councilor seeks dialogue over proposed Ligurian incinerator
Claudio Sacchetto, a regional councilor from Fratelli d'Italia and president of the Third Permanent Commission, has filed a motion regarding a proposed waste incinerator in the Val Bormida area. The project is being evaluated by the Liguria Region through the Regional Agency for Waste (ARLIR) as part of a public-private partnership to close the urban waste cycle.
Out of six potential locations proposed during the exploratory phase, five target the valleys of Val Bormida. Because the Val Bormida territory spans both Liguria and Piedmont—specifically affecting the provinces of Cuneo, Asti, and Alessandria—Sacchetto is calling on the Piedmont Regional Government to initiate formal discussions with Liguria.
The motion requests that the regional administration involve ARPA Piedmont and ARPA Liguria to assess transboundary environmental effects, ensure the participation of Piedmontese municipalities and provinces within the Bormida basin, and provide periodic updates to the Commission on the proceedings.
