Piedmont faces activist opposition over local autonomy

The city of Piedmont, a small enclave located within the geographic boundaries of Oakland, California, is facing opposition from local activists. The movement, led by Oakland transit planner Jesse Rosemoore, has utilized merchandise such as ‘CANCEL PIEDMONT’ stickers and T-shirts to protest the city’s independence and prosperity.

Piedmont has operated as a charter city since 1923, maintaining its own local government, tax systems, and public services, including schools and law enforcement.
