Piedmont initiates procedure to reactivate Alessandria-Ovada rail line
The Piedmont Region has initiated the administrative procedure to reactivate passenger rail service on the Alessandria-Ovada line, which has been suspended since 2012. The Board of Directors of the Piedmont Mobility Agency approved the move, aiming to restore service by the end of 2027.
Because the line is currently used for freight transport, regional officials noted that significant infrastructural interventions should not be required for the reactivation. The proposed service model for school days includes ten trains per day, running approximately every two hours. Scheduling will prioritize the needs of commuters and students, specifically focusing on connections in Alessandria for travel to and from Milan.
To identify the most suitable service provider, the agency is launching a call for expressions of interest from railway companies. Proposals must be submitted by November 30, 2026, to ensure the project remains on track for its 2027 target.
