Piedmont launches free August visits to royal sites and Turin natural history museum

Throughout August, Piedmont's cultural institutions are expanding public access. The Royal Savoy Residences and the region's national museums will host special programmes that include opening normally closed apartments at the Castle of Racconigi, new visitor routes at the Gavi Fortress, concerts at the archaeological area of Libarna, tours of the Prince's Apartments in Palazzo Carignano, and events at the Abbey of Vezzolano and Castle of Agliè. These initiatives aim to showcase hidden heritage spaces, with exhibitions, concerts and theatrical readings scheduled for the month.

In parallel, the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences in Turin will offer free admission from 1 to 31 August 2026. Regional President Alberto Cirio and Culture Assessor Marina Chiarelli highlighted the programme as a way to make culture an inclusive public good, noting that about 50,000 visitors used the free‑entry offer last summer. Museum director Marco Fino added that the free‑ticket period coincides with ongoing renovation works, encouraging visitors to experience the museum despite construction.

Both programmes aim to attract families, students, seniors and tourists, providing cultural enrichment and a climate‑controlled refuge during the summer heat.
