Piedmont leads Italy in tourism growth for July
Piedmont has emerged as the Italian region with the highest tourism growth for July, according to a report from the Ministry of Tourism. The region saw a 9.9% increase in tourist presence compared to the same period in 2025, outpacing other regions such as Marche, Calabria, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Contrary to typical trends centered in major cities like Turin, this growth is being driven by small towns with populations under 5,000. These locations are benefiting from local festivals, traditional product celebrations, and community-led initiatives. In response, regional tourism assessor Paolo Bongioanni announced new promotional campaigns focusing on outdoor tourism and digital itineraries for cycling.
However, officials have raised concerns regarding the sustainability of this model. Marco Bussone, president of Uncem, warned that heavy seasonal tourism risks hollowing out small communities, potentially transforming them into villages used exclusively by visitors while leaving residents to face demographic decline and a lack of services during the off-season.
