Piedmont region averts diesel Euro 5 ban with new air‑quality plan

The Regional Government of Piedmont approved an updated air‑quality plan that avoids the scheduled seasonal ban on diesel Euro 5 vehicles. The plan allocates roughly €28 million to measures such as subsidies for the HVO biocarburant, upgrades to heating installations, biomass projects and public‑transport incentives, aiming to cut emissions at levels comparable to the originally planned ban. About 307,000 Euro 5 diesel cars would have been affected, especially in Turin and Novara, but the new strategy lets them continue circulating.

Lega deputy Riccardo Molinari welcomed the decision, stating it puts “the final stop to the diesel Euro 5 block” and protects families that could not afford to replace their cars. He credited the regional Lega leadership for securing the change and emphasized the focus on practical solutions rather than restrictions.
