Piedmont Region Boosts Health Prevention Through Community Walking Programs
The Piedmont regional health authority reported that its "Comunità Attive" initiative expanded in 2025, promoting regular physical activity as a preventive measure against chronic diseases. 117 projects were launched across the region, engaging more than 93,000 participants – an 18% rise from the previous year – and involving over 1,000 municipalities.
The programme identified 716 "active municipalities" that run structured activity programmes for all age groups, and supported 515 walking groups with more than 13,000 members. By linking local health agencies, municipal administrations, NGOs and citizens, the plan aims to improve cardiovascular, diabetic, obesity and cancer outcomes while also enhancing psychological well‑being and social inclusion.
