The road transport sector in Piedmont is facing a critical situation due to rising fuel costs and price volatility. According to estimates, fuel price increases for businesses and families in the Piedmont region are expected to reach 807 million euros compared to 2025, representing a 19.7% increase.

For transport companies, fuel has become a major operational burden, rising from approximately 20% of total costs before the crisis to roughly 30% today, making it the second largest expense after personnel. Giovanni Rosso, President of Confartigianato Imprese Piemonte Trasporti, noted that the sector is struggling with uncontrollable operating costs and shrinking margins.

Nationally, the CGIA Study Office projects a total cost increase of approximately 13.6 billion euros in 2026 compared to 2025, a 20.4% rise. While the Italian government has implemented a 130 million euro allocation to reduce diesel excise duties until September 5, industry representatives argue that such one-off measures are insufficient to address the ongoing volatility and systemic nature of the crisis.
