Piedmontese mountain regions face healthcare and service shortages

The management of services in the Piedmontese mountains is facing critical challenges, particularly regarding healthcare and emergency response. Marco Bussone, national president of Uncem, has highlighted a severe shortage of general practitioners in mountain areas like Valsesia, noting that medical school trends suggest these shortages will persist for years.

Bussone emphasized that addressing these gaps requires a cultural and social shift, urging major cities like Turin and Vercelli to advocate for the needs of Alpine valleys. He also noted that managing forest fires is a collective responsibility that requires improved communication across territories.

In local administrative debates, criticisms have been raised regarding the placement of the new 'Casa di Comunità' (Community House). Critics argue that maintaining redundant services in less accessible locations, such as the Borgo area, creates a costly paradox that wastes resources. Proposals have been made to consolidate services at the hospital and the Community House, potentially utilizing mobile nursing teams to reach remote hamlets more efficiently.
