Piedras Negras councilwoman audits Independence Day spending

Councilwoman Ana María Treviño is calling for a formal audit of the municipal funds used for the Independence Day celebrations in Piedras Negras, Coahuila. Preliminary estimates suggest the festivities cost approximately 9.95 million pesos.

Treviño has requested that the City Secretariat and the Municipal Treasury provide transparency regarding contracts, suppliers, and payment mechanisms. A significant portion of the controversy involves the performance by singer Gabito Ballesteros, which is estimated to have cost around 7 million pesos. This figure represents a substantial increase compared to previous municipal events involving the same artist.

Mayor Jacobo Rodríguez has defended the expenditure, arguing that large-scale musical performances generate economic benefits for the city. However, Treviño noted that the City Council has not yet received the official documentation necessary to confirm these specific amounts or to validate the contracts used for the event.
