Piedras Negras faces water pressure drop amid tire‑recycling plant plans

The Sistema Municipal de Aguas y Saneamiento (SIMAS) announced that a valve repair at the Río Bravo pumping station will require a temporary suspension of water pumping to the treatment plant at 23:00, causing reduced pressure in parts of Piedras Negras from about 21:00. The utility warned that service levels will fall until the work is finished and water pressure is restored gradually.

The municipal government is also studying the installation of a tire‑recycling plant next to the city’s landfill. Director of Ecology and Urban Image Alexis González said negotiations are under way with a Saltillo‑based firm to process the 60‑70 % of landfill capacity occupied by used tires. Recycled rubber could be used for paint, asphalt, cement fuel or exported to the United States. Technical and economic feasibility studies are ongoing before any final decision.
