Piedras Negras residents protest cemetery and infrastructure neglect

Residents of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, are expressing growing discontent regarding municipal infrastructure and cemetery management. In the Villa de Fuente sector, citizens have reported severe deterioration of streets near the railroad tracks, citing potholes, flooding, and waste accumulation. Locals attribute the damage to drainage issues that have reportedly gone unaddressed by the water utility SIMAS.

Simultaneously, the Villa de Fuente municipal cemetery is facing criticism for neglect. Reports indicate overgrown vegetation, trash accumulation, damaged graves, and deteriorating access paths. Residents claim maintenance is only performed during major holidays, leaving the site in poor condition for the rest of the year.

Further tension has arisen regarding the administration of Mayor Jacobo Rodríguez, which intends to project a new municipal cemetery. Residents of the Praderas neighborhood are protesting the plan, fearing the project will consume land originally intended for essential community services such as schools, parks, and green spaces.
