Italy: Regional concerns over car tax and industrial labor disputes
Various regional and industrial developments are unfolding across Italy. In Emilia-Romagna, President Michele de Pascale expressed concern regarding the lack of clarity on how the proposed one-year abolition of the car tax (bollo auto) for vehicles under 80 kw will be funded, noting that regions are worried about budget gaps despite government assurances.
In Livorno, workers at the Pierburg plant have voted for a 10-hour strike following three years of social safety net usage. Unions are demanding concrete guarantees for the 220 families involved as the Power Systems division moves toward a sale to the Aequita fund.
In the healthcare sector, the FP CGIL union is calling for the nationalization of the Mesagne Hospice in Puglia to address critical staffing shortages and management issues. Meanwhile, in the nursing home sector, management at Canzio has denied allegations of mismanagement following a failed transition to the Kursana cooperative, citing technical delays and documentation issues.
On the energy front, a pilot project for green hydrogen development has been signed in the Port of Savona. Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi highlighted the project as a step toward energy security and reducing dependence on foreign hydrocarbons.
