Piergiulio Ruhe defends WBA Gold title in Buenos Aires

Piergiulio Ruhe successfully defended his WBA Gold super welterweight title in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the WBA’s annual ‘KO A Las Drogas’ event. The German-Italian boxer secured a victory against the previously undefeated 19-year-old Venezuelan David Alvarez via technical knockout in the seventh round.

Despite an initial period of balanced action where Ruhe utilized footwork and an active upper body, the fight became intense. Ruhe eventually stopped Alvarez with a liver shot. Following the match, Ruhe noted that while Alvarez was technically proficient and possessed harder punches than anticipated, his experience proved decisive.

Ruhe’s mentor, former champion Firat Arslan, attended the bout and praised Ruhe’s performance, though he noted the opponent was particularly dangerous in close-quarters combat. To commemorate the milestone of his second successful title defense, Ruhe marked the occasion with a new tattoo.
