Pierluigi Gollini faces controversy in Napoli-Roma match

During the Napoli-Roma Serie A match, Roma goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini was involved in a controversial incident when he touched the ball with his arm outside of the penalty area while attempting to intercept a pass intended for Kevin De Bruyne. Despite the contact, referee Andrea Colombo allowed play to continue without issuing a penalty or a red card.

Refereeing expert Luca Marelli explained that the decision was correct under IFAB Rule 12, noting that Gollini’s arm remained close to his body and did not unnaturally increase his volume.

The match also marked a significant personal return for Gollini, who started in goal for Roma against his former club, Napoli. Gollini previously played for Napoli on loan from Atalanta during Luciano Spalletti’s tenure, a period that included winning the Scudetto.
