Piero Guccione exhibition opens at Fondo Camilleri in Rome
The Fondo Andrea Camilleri in Rome is hosting a special exhibition titled ‘Piero Guccione. Racconti dello sguardo’. The showcase features six works on paper by the renowned Italian painter Piero Guccione, exploring Sicilian nature through themes of memory and silence, including depictions of the sea, sky, and local vegetation.
The exhibition fulfills a wish expressed by the late writer Andrea Camilleri to honor Guccione, despite the two artists never having met personally. The event was organized with the involvement of their daughters, Paola Guccione and Elisabetta and Mariola Camilleri, creating an ideal dialogue between two major figures of Sicilian culture.
In addition to the paper works, the exhibition includes a video section detailing the painter's life and a pastel titled ‘La processione dello stivale’, which Guccione created for a story by Camilleri. Guccione, born in Scicli in 1935, had a distinguished career that included six appearances at the Venice Biennale and receiving the Gold Medal of the Presidency of the Republic in 2004.
