Alpine F1 warns of media restrictions following threats to Pierre Gasly

Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly has reported receiving severe online threats and harassment following a racing incident with teammate Franco Colapinto at the Spanish Grand Prix. Gasly stated that the abuse has extended beyond himself to include his family and partner, describing the situation as “completely inappropriate” and “disturbing.”

The conflict originated when Colapinto requested via radio that Gasly yield position during the closing laps of the race in Madrid. While the team managed the situation internally, the resulting digital backlash from some fans has drawn high-level condemnation. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed full support for Gasly, stating that “online abuse directed towards Pierre Gasly and his family is completely unacceptable.”

Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore issued a stern warning to fans, particularly in Argentina, suggesting that if the harassment continues, the team may restrict Colapinto’s media access and cease providing interviews to Argentine television. Colapinto has also spoken out, condemning the attacks and emphasizing that he and Gasly maintain a professional relationship and work toward the same team goals.
