Pierre Ménès discusses Aimé Jacquet and L’Equipe conflict

Pierre Ménès has addressed the historical conflict between former French national football coach Aimé Jacquet and the sports daily L’Equipe. During the 1998 World Cup period, L’Equipe engaged in what was described as a smear campaign against Jacquet, questioning his methods and suitability to lead the team.

Jacquet famously expressed intense resentment toward the press following France's victory, labeling certain journalists as “thugs, irresponsible, dishonest and incompetent.” Ménès, who worked at L’Equipe during that time, clarified that he was personally excluded from the conflict by Jacquet, noting that the coach appeared to have information suggesting Ménès was not opposed to him.
