Pierre van Hooijdonk steps down as NOS Sport analyst
Former footballer Pierre van Hooijdonk is stepping down as a regular analyst for NOS Sport. The 56-year-old, who frequently provided commentary for the Dutch national team and the now-defunct program Studio Voetbal, stated in a press release that he feels it is time for a new direction, noting he is “busy with other fun things.”
NOS Sport editor-in-chief Xander van der Wulp praised Van Hooijdonk for his years of service, describing his analysis as pleasant, sharp, and critical when necessary. Van der Wulp noted that the end of Studio Voetbal had already removed a significant platform for the analyst.
Van Hooijdonk’s departure follows recent criticism regarding his televised comments concerning the possibility of a female head coach for the Dutch national team. Moving forward, Rafael van der Vaart will serve as the primary face for broadcasts involving the Dutch national team, supported by rotating analysts.
