Pieter van Oord departs Stadion Feijenoord amid club unification
Pieter van Oord has stepped down as chairman of the supervisory board of Stadion Feijenoord after more than eight years in the role. His departure coincides with the unification of the stadium organization and the football club Feyenoord into a single entity.
Van Oord reflected on the shift in strategy during his tenure, noting that the initial focus was the ‘Feyenoord City’ project to build a new stadium. However, that plan was abandoned in 2022 due to what he described as fundamental flaws in the proposal. Following the cancellation of the new stadium project, the focus shifted toward restoring the financial health of the stadium and ensuring long-term stability.
Looking forward, Van Oord stated that the future of the organization lies in the maintenance and development of the existing De Kuip stadium. He expressed satisfaction with his role in the decision to merge the stadium and the club, noting that the intention to become one organization was signed in the summer of 2024.
