Pietracatella investigation: delays in ricin analysis and new questioning

The investigation into the deaths of Antonella Di Ielsi and her daughter Sara Di Vita in Pietracatella has faced new delays. The Robert Koch Institute in Berlin has requested a 30-day extension to complete its analysis of food samples and evidence, with a further potential extension possible at the end of November. Official results from the German experts are now not expected until late December.

In parallel, the Campobasso police have questioned a local waste collection worker. Investigators are attempting to trace the disposal path of food scraps from the dinner on December 23, 2025, which is central to the suspected ricin poisoning. Specifically, authorities are looking into the handling of a container of mussels that was reportedly discarded with organic waste on December 24, though conflicting accounts regarding when the remains were disposed of have emerged during the inquiry.
