Pietracatella ricin poisoning case prompts probe of contaminated water bottles

Investigators are examining the 2022 ricin poisoning that killed mother Antonella Di Ielsi and her daughter Sara Di Vita in Pietracatella, Italy. Police have identified two water bottles containing suspicious liquid that may have held a diluted ricin solution, and the residues are being analysed for the toxin. The inquiry has broadened to scrutinise about 70 items, ranging from kitchen appliances to stored food, to trace possible exposure routes.

A new investigative summit is scheduled, with the mobile squad from Campobasso and expert consultants from Berlin joining Italian prosecutors led by Carlo Locatelli. The next meeting aims to determine how the toxin entered the victims' bodies and whether additional contamination occurred.

The case remains under active investigation, with authorities continuing forensic testing and forensic analysis of the bottles and related materials.
