Pietracatella ricin investigation: digital forensic analysis underway

Investigators in Pietracatella are conducting a forensic digital analysis following the deaths of Antonella Di Ielsi and her 15-year-old daughter, Sara Di Vita, who died from ricin poisoning in December 2025. The Larino Prosecutor's Office has ordered the examination of a Lenovo computer and ten USB flash drives seized from the professional offices of Gianni Di Vita, the husband of the deceased and former mayor of Pietracatella.

Specialists from the State Police's Central Operative Service (SCO) have completed the forensic extraction and cataloging of the data. The investigation aims to reconstruct the victims' digital activities in the days leading up to their deaths, including online searches for ricin, digital communications, and notes regarding food consumption. The prosecutor has set a 60-day deadline for the completion of this analysis.

Gianni Di Vita, who is not currently a suspect but is being questioned as a witness, has cooperated with authorities by voluntarily handing over additional electronic devices. Recent police actions have also included searches of professional offices in both Pietracatella and Campobasso, as well as the family residence. Investigators are exploring various leads, including the possibility of a potential motive involving a third party, though no formal charges have been filed against Di Vita at this stage.
