Pietrasanta reports heavy damage following severe weather
The municipality of Pietrasanta has reported that initial emergency expenses for cleanup, evacuations, and restoration following a violent downburst on August 21 amount to approximately 150,000 euros. During a meeting with regional and provincial technicians, officials noted that total damages could reach between 700,000 and 800,000 euros.
The severe weather caused significant damage to public and private infrastructure, including the Mancini primary school, the Pietrasanta cemetery, the Museo dei Bozzetti, and various sports facilities. In the Marina di Pietrasanta area, fallen trees damaged vehicles and roofs, leading to the temporary closure of four businesses and the evacuation of several residents and tourists.
Mayor Alberto Stefano Giovannetti emphasized the need for support from higher-level regional and provincial institutions to assist with the heavy economic burden faced by private citizens, business owners, and the local tourism sector.
