Pietrino Soddu, former Sardinian regional president, dies at 97

Pietrino Soddu, a prominent figure in Sardinian politics and a former leader of the Christian Democracy party, has died at the age of 97.

Soddu held several high-ranking positions throughout his career, including serving seven terms as the President of the Sardinia Region between 1972 and 1980. He also served as a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies for 11 years, President of the Province of Sassari, and Mayor of his hometown, Benetutti.

Regional leaders and political figures have paid tribute to his legacy, describing him as a “pillar of Sardinian autonomy” and a significant intellectual who shaped the island's social and economic landscape. His funeral was held in Sassari, attended by numerous institutional representatives and former political colleagues.
