Pietro Diamantini appointed head of Campania’s EAV with €600 million rail upgrade

The Campania regional government named engineer Pietro Diamantini as the new amministratore unico of the Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV). Diamantini, a former Ferrovie dello Stato manager, succeeds Umberto De Gregorio, who led the company for more than a decade. Regional President Roberto Fico and Vice‑President Mario Casillo said the appointment reflects a merit‑based approach and described Diamantini as a “top‑player” needed to revive the service, especially the Circumvesuviana line.

The administration announced an investment programme of €600 million for EAV, including the purchase of about 100 new trains (adding 50 to the 56 already planned) and a comprehensive refurbishment of stations to improve accessibility, safety and passenger experience. The first board meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on the day after the announcement, with immediate attention on stabilising service levels and preparing for the summer peak and the September school‑year start.
