Pietro Diamantini appointed sole administrator of EAV in Campania

The Campania regional council debated the state of local public transport, with the centre‑right opposition demanding a feasibility study for a tram line on the disused Cancello‑Napoli railway and accountability for former managers. President Roberto Fico responded by naming Pietro Diamantini, a former senior Trenitalia high‑speed manager, as the sole administrator of EAV, the region’s public‑transport authority. Diamantini’s contract provides a salary of about €200,000 per year with performance‑based bonuses, and he is tasked with a two‑year turnaround, including a full due‑diligence review of the company’s operations and service upgrades for the Circumvesuviana line, metro projects and other regional links. The appointment is presented as a break from past mismanagement, while the government also highlighted recent investments such as new rolling stock, free student tickets and integrated ticketing.

The opposition, led by Gennaro Sangiuliano, continues to press for further reforms and investigations into prior administrations, framing transport as a fundamental citizenship right.
